Visit Redefine Healthcare to have your symptoms evaluated by pain management specialists for identifying the possible reasons behind your back problems. Dr. Eric Freeman is an experienced, board-certified physician and has treated patients with various spine and back issues successfully over years. He focuses on diagnosing the source of your pain and comes up with the best treatment methods to eliminate your pain for good.

Lower back pain that occurs on one side of the body may feel like a constant ache or pain that flares up occasionally and then subsides. This pain can be sharp, stabbing and severe, or dull, which makes it difficult for you to move, sleep or work normally. In some cases, this pain stops or worsens with movement or even changes places if there is any pressure on the back.

It is best to consult a doctor if your pain is persistent, does not go away after a few days, or you begin to experience other symptoms to ensure it is not something serious. It could be anything from a muscle strain to an underlying medical issue that needs proper diagnosis and treatment.

Common Causes of Sharp, Stabbing Pain in the Lower Left Side of the Back

The most common causes of sharp, stabbing pain in the lower left side of the back include:

Injury to structures along the spinal column, such as facet joints or spinal discs

Damage to soft tissue structures that support the spine, such as ligaments or muscles

Conditions that affect internal organs on that side, such as the intestines, kidneys, or reproductive organs

Soft Tissue Damage

Overused, weak, or overstretched muscles and tendons in the lower back can become strained and cause pain. Similarly, a torn or overstretched ligament can result in a painful sprain. These types of injuries are associated with inflammation accompanied by sharp, stabbing muscle spasms.

Common causes of soft tissue damage in the lower back include incidents, such as abrupt movements like twisting or bending, a hard fall, or even a minor car accident. In some cases, poor posture or improper lifting techniques can also lead to a back injury. Signs that your pain in the lower back is resulting from soft tissue damage include a sore or stiff back, stabbing pain in the back during movement, or muscle spasms.

Spinal Column Damage

Many conditions cause one-sided lower back pain or pain on the left side of the lower back. They include:

Facet joint syndrome

Herniated lumbar disc

Sacroiliac joint dysfunction

Facet Joint Syndrome

Small bony structures that stabilize the vertebrae or spinal bones are called facet joints. They are located between the vertebrae and look like bony knobs. These small joints connect vertebrae in a chain-like manner to allow spinal movement in different directions. Any damage or degeneration of facet joints can result in a condition known as facet joint syndrome.

The pain usually develops in the region where the affected joint is located. Wear and tear of the joint due to aging, called osteoarthritis, are serious complications that can cause inflammation of the facet joints. The most commonly experienced symptom of this condition is pain in the lower back that is usually one-sided or occurs on the left side and radiates to the buttocks, thighs, or legs.

Other symptoms of facet joint syndrome include:

Headaches

Shoulder pain

Muscle weakness

Stiffness in the back

A loss of flexibility in the spine

Tenderness or pain in the inflamed area

Sometimes injuries that are not considered serious, such as poor posture while lifting heavy objects or twisting body the wrong way, can trigger the onset of facet joint pain.

Herniated Disc

Positioned between each vertebra in the lower region of the spine, lumbar discs function as protective shock absorbers. Improper lifting techniques, traumatic spinal injury, inactive lifestyle, and repetitive movement can lead to a herniated disc, more commonly known as a slipped disc. The disc protrudes or bulges out, which then presses onto the nerves, leading to numbness and pain on one side of the lower back, depending on the position of the disc.

In some cases, the disc may break or rupture, resulting in severe pain that needs surgery to prevent permanent nerve damage.

Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction

Sacroiliac joint dysfunction is a condition when the joint that connects the hip bones to the lower back part of the spine moves abnormally and becomes inflamed, causing a dull aching pain in the left lower back. A hard fall on the left side can also alter the position of the joint and cause pain in the region. Accompanied by inflammation, the pain may radiate from the lower back to the buttocks and the back of the left upper thigh.

For some people, the joint becomes stiff and causes poor coordination and lower back pain, while others experience pain due to joints that have become loose. This condition can be chronic or result from temporary stress.

Internal Organ Issues

Sharp and stabbing pain on the lower left side of the back may be coming from the organs in your mid-back, abdominal, or pelvic area. It could be anything from a kidney infection to a kidney stone, ulcerative colitis, pancreatitis, or uterine disorders. A healthcare professional can identify the source of your pain by focusing on the symptoms and running some tests.

Kidney or Urinary Infections

Left kidney infection or advanced bladder infection can cause constant, aching pain on the left side of the lower back. Kidney infections are usually caused by bacteria that infect the bladder and travel up to the kidneys. Other symptoms of a kidney infection include foul-smelling urine, dark cloudy, or bloody urine, fever, chills, and painful urination combined with frequent, painful urination.

Kidney Stones

The presence of stones in the kidney is associated with sharp, stabbing pain on the lower left side of the back and intense pain below the ribs, in the lower abdomen, above the buttocks, and in the ground. These stones develop due to mineral buildup in the urinary tract and cause pain due to irritation or blockage. The pain comes in waves and fluctuates in intensity.

The pain may reduce as the small stones pass through the urinary tract, but larger stones require specific treatment. It becomes necessary to break them up to facilitate their exit from the body.

Pancreatitis

It is inflammation of the pancreas that leads to abnormal pancreatic function. Chronic pancreatitis can also lead to the development of fluid-filled sacs on the surface of the organ. Commonly experienced symptoms of pancreatitis include severe pain in the middle of the abdomen or on the left side of the stomach that may extend to the lower back.

It is described as a sharp, shooting, or burning pain that fluctuates and lasts for several hours or even a few days. Nausea and vomiting may occur along with other symptoms. If this condition persists or progresses, the painful episodes may increase in frequency and severity.

Uterine Disorders

Endometriosis is a uterine condition that leads to painful lesions that grow outside the uterus. The lesion may also be present in the fallopian tubes, ovaries, or intestines. Any abnormal growth on the left ovary or left fallopian tube can result in lower left-side pain that radiates to the back. Severe cramps during the menstrual cycle and painful intercourse are also linked to this condition.

Uterine fibroids are another common issue linked to lower left-side back pain. These are noncancerous growths that develop in the uterus or the ovaries. Fibroids may also cause intense cramping, heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, and prolonged menstruation.

Effective Treatment Methods for Sharp, Stabbing Pain in the Lower Left Side of the Back

Treatment for this pain varies, depending on the way it is affecting you and the underlying causes. It is necessary to have your condition accurately diagnosed by a healthcare professional to know more about your pain and how it can be reduced.

If your back pain is occurring due to some problem with internal organs located on that side, identifying the causes and treating them timely can eliminate the problem.

Potential treatments for issues related to internal organs include:

Kidney stones – The doctor may prescribe medication or shockwave therapy to break up the kidney stones.

Endometriosis – Medication is recommended to target the pain, and in some cases, surgery may be needed to remove excess tissue.

Pancreatitis – In case of bile duct obstruction, surgery is performed to remove the fluid or drain it from the pancreas.

If your lower left side back pain is developing due to some musculoskeletal or spinal issues, the following strategies may help you feel better:

Rest

If your back injury and pain is resulting from a minor accident, such as a fall from stairs, impact in a vehicle, or quick movements, including improperly lifting an object, restrict your back activities and take some rest.

Limiting movements or activities that worsen the pain and discomfort can lead to a swift recovery.

Hot and Cold Therapy

Keeping a cold compress or ice pack on the affected area several times a day for about 20 minutes every time can reduce the pain and inflammation. Cold targets swelling, discomfort, and muscle spasms by slowing the blood flow to the affected area. It is essential to wrap the ice pack in a cloth or towel before applying it to the skin to protect it from damage.

After cold therapy, a hot pad can be applied to the area to lessen the pain for about 20 minutes to soothe and relax the tense muscles or ligaments. Heat therapy boosts the circulation of blood, and enhances muscle flexibility. Increased circulation helps to transfer nutrients and oxygen to damaged tissues and removes the chemical irritants that build up at the inflammation area, accelerating the healing process.

Pain Relieving Medications

Over-the-counter, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin and ibuprofen, help ease the inflammation causing pain in the lower left side of the back. Acetaminophen is a popular pain reliever that is used for alleviating discomfort when NSAIDs cannot be taken, or they do not produce the desired effects.

If over-the-counter pain-relieving medications are not working, your doctor may suggest stronger, prescription medications and muscle relaxants to manage moderate to severe chronic pain.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is an effective way to seek relief if you continue to experience sharp, stabbing pain in the back despite medication or self-care. Healthcare experts also recommend post-operative physical therapy as pain management for people who need surgical treatment.

The goals of physical therapy include:

Reducing pain and stiffness

Ensuring quick recovery with a guided activity

Strengthening your muscles, tendons, and ligaments

Improving your range of motion

Correcting postural issues

Encouraging safe body movements

The good thing about physical therapy is that your therapist can come up with a personalized program that can be performed at home for prolonged wellness. Therapists also monitor your progress and suggest adjustments to your routine accordingly for the best results.

When to See a Doctor for Sharp Stabbing Pain in Your Lower Back?

You may experience varying degrees of pain in your lower back. While mild to moderate pain can be eased with pain-relieving medications, including NSAIDs, acetaminophen, and other conservative treatments like rest and physical therapies, severe and persistent pain needs medical attention.

If your back pain does not decrease after 1 to 2 weeks or worsens, it is essential to call your doctor.

Other symptoms that indicate a serious condition and call for medical assistance include:

Fever

Nausea

Vomiting

Dizziness

Confusion

Numbness

Incontinence

Extreme fatigue

Painful urination

Muscle weakness

Blood in the urine

Shortness of breath

Numbness in the legs

Difficulty moving the legs

A loss of bowel or bladder control

Weakness or tingling in the lower body

Your doctor may perform a physical examination along with imaging tests such as x-rays, CT scans, ultrasound, or MRI to identify the causes behind your symptoms and diagnose your condition accurately. If you are already going through physical therapy, discuss your symptoms with the therapist to seek professional advice and timely treatment.

Proper Snow Shoveling Technique

Using the proper technique for shoveling snow can prevent injury and increase efficiency. Moving heavy shovels full of snow repeatedly without proper form can put you at a huge risk of injury.

Warm-up. Just as you would for other forms of exercise, loosen up with some stretches and bring your heart rate up gradually with some light calisthenics before shoveling.

Grip near the shovel blade to keep it close to you when lifting the snow to reduce strain on your back.

When lifting, squat with your legs apart, knees bent, and back straight.

Work different muscles by switching between a right-handed and left-handed stance.

Your shovel doesn’t need to be full of snow every time! Shoveling smaller amounts for a longer amount of time can be less strenuous than trying to toss heavy chunks.

Take breaks. Snow shoveling can be equivalent to both aerobic exercise and strength training. We recommend staying outside for no longer than 40 minutes at a time. Break up that chunk of time into 10- or 20-minute intervals and drink plenty of water.

Make shoveling a workout. If you’re shoveling snow properly, you’ll be working your glutes, hamstrings, quads, abs, lower back, upper back, and shoulders. Once you nail your form, make shoveling a double-duty chore and up the fitness factor!

Most doctors, physical therapists, or trainers will recommend some form of exercise to help speed your recovery. What is essential, however, is to avoid any activities that exacerbate the pain. When your doctor recommends exercise to improve your back pain, avoid routines that could hinder your recovery, and choose alternatives that will benefit you.

The Best Exercises to Manage Chronic Back Pain

Walking

If you are in severe pain, one of the best exercises is to walk. Walking boosts circulation and sends a fresh supply of oxygenated blood to where it hurts. The activity will reduce inflammation and decrease your discomfort. It’s essential to strengthen key muscles surrounding the back to help support it and decrease the likelihood of further pain. However, specific exercises detailed below can cause more harm, and you should avoid them.

Swimming

Swimming is perhaps one of the best choices for people looking for exercise as a relief from chronic back pain. Pools are often easy to access in most communities, and the barrier to entry is low. Meanwhile, the water delivers built-in resistance to challenge the body without being too taxing. What is essential to understand about using swimming to combat back pain? Here are a few pointers to begin the journey.

Start By Consulting Your Physician Before Swimming.

Before beginning any new regimen of exercise, it’s important to consult with your doctor. Your physician understands better than anyone both the needs and the limitations of your body. Seeking clearance and guidance before you start a new exercise effort can help to ensure you are healthy enough for the level of physical activity you intend to pursue. You may also be able to acquire a recommendation for a physical therapist who can aid you in developing a swimming plan to target your particular type of pain. With medical clearance, it’s time to get in the water.

Practice Simple Swimming Strokes Or Tasks.

The goal here is not to become an Olympic-class swimmer, but to develop the skills necessary for strengthening your body and reducing pain. There’s no reason to plan to swim twenty laps a day. Instead, find the stroke that is both comfortable and effective for you. For beginners, this often means breaststroke. However, the backstroke is also effective at pain management. If you aren’t sure about your swimming form, ask for help from a more experienced swimmer or an instructor. Strength training in the water, which may include merely walking from one side of the pool to the other, can also yield results and allow you to build towards more strengthening exercises.

Develop A Dependable Swimming Routine.

Based on research conducted in Japan, swimming yields more robust results regarding pain management when individuals got in the pool two or more times every week. However, any effort put forth in the pool can help deliver relief from the pain your experience. While you may not notice results right away, such as within the first days or even the first week or two, your efforts build up over time. Use that as a motivating factor to keep getting in the water. Make it fun, too! There are plenty of aquatic exercise opportunities that can work effectively in this context. Listen to what your body and your doctor tell you, and you can unlock some of the benefits of swimming.

Four Exercises That Can Inflame Lower Back Pain

A common issue amongst most people with lower back pain is a weak core. For this reason, sit-ups place an enormous strain on your spine when you move from lying flat to sitting upright. Because your front muscles don’t power you as you sit up, the low back must take on the brunt of the work, increasing your pain. A way to get your upper abs worked without putting a strain on the lower back is to practice half-crunches at a 20-degree angle. Your shoulders will only come up five to six inches off the floor, eliminating the strain on your back.

Squatting down to raise a barbell with your lower back rounded will compress your vertebral discs. Rather than risk further injury, try doing leg presses on a machine. The leg presses will strengthen your hamstring and glutes, just like deadlifts will, but the leg presses eliminate the pressure on your back.

While burpees activate the majority of muscles in your upper and lower body, they are a terrible idea if you have ever had a history of back pain. Dropping down into a pushup and then bouncing back up into a jump involves explosive, high-impact movements that will aggravate back pain. Instead, take a few minutes to accomplish some high-intensity interval training (HIIT) by only getting your heart rate up by walking briskly or stepping up the pace on an elliptical. Neither of these choices will increase back pain. Your cardiovascular health will improve without hurting your back.

Tight hamstrings are one of the leading causes of back pain. While it is a good idea to stretch those hamstrings, toe-touches can put pressure on your spine, especially if you sit for much of the day. A safer alternative is to lay on your back with your legs extended. Bring one knee to the chest and grasp it with both hands for 20 to 30 seconds. Repeat it with the other leg. Since you are flat on the ground, your spine stays in neutral alignment.

As we get older, staying healthy and active becomes more important than ever. Even though your muscles and bones may not be as strong as they once were, you can still enjoy a full, normal life taking part in the activities that you enjoy. Unfortunately, many seniors experience problems such as chronic pain and other physical issues caused by age-related deterioration of the body. The good news is that chiropractic care offers numerous benefits for the aging population, from a reduced risk of falls to enhanced mobility. Here are some of these benefits.

 Book Online

Pain Relief

Chiropractic care is an extremely safe and effective way to treat the pain that can accompany many age-related spinal conditions. One reason that this therapy is so effective is that chronic pain is often related to abnormalities of the spine itself or the surrounding soft tissues. Chiropractors are trained specifically to identify and treat spine misalignments to address their effect on the body. In addition to causing a range of unpleasant side effects, pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs simply mask painful symptoms. Chiropractic care treats the underlying issue, reducing the need for such medications.

Improved Range of Motion

Chiropractic care is known to increase the range of motion, not only in the spine but in the extremities as well. Maximizing a person’s range of motion improves their quality of life in many ways. For example, an improved range of motion may mean the ability to garden without pain, bend down to pick up grandchildren or play golf with the guys again. In many cases, patients experience an increased range of motion immediately following their chiropractic treatments. Incidentally, many pro sports teams have their own chiropractors for this very reason.

Reduced Fall Risk

Falls that result in injuries are extremely common among older individuals. In fact, according to the CDC, 30 million adults fall every year, leading to some 30,000 deaths. One out of every five falls results in a serious injury, and 300,000 adults are hospitalized each year for hip fractures. More than 95 % of these hip fractures are caused by falling. Chiropractic care can reduce these risks through the administration of chiropractic adjustments that normalize the cervical spine. Chiropractors can also prescribe specific exercises and stretches designed to boost strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and mobility.

Reduced Primary Care Costs

Receiving regular chiropractic treatments can help seniors cut down on the number of primary care visits they’ll need, reducing overall healthcare costs. Furthermore, chiropractic care may even help keep patients out of nursing homes for longer by improving strength, mobility, and overall well-being. People who receive chiropractic care are more likely to be active, less likely to be hospitalized, and less likely to require full-time care in a nursing home.

At Redefine Healthcare, we offer a range of chiropractic services, pain management, physical therapy, sports medicine, and more. We happily accept Medicare and help many elderly individuals regain their independence and quality of life. With chiropractic services now available in both our Paterson and Edison facilities, it is easier to get the care you or a loved one deserves. Contact us today for a consultation and to get moving!

If you experience knee pain, you may assume that you have a knee problem – but that’s not always the case. While a knee condition may indeed cause knee pain, it may also be caused by a problem with your back, such as a pinched nerve or a disc protrusion. The lower back contains nerves that transmit sensation to the legs and feet.

 Book Online
 (732) 906-9600

On occasion, an injury or simply age can cause the discs in this area to press on these nerves. This compression can cause the nerves to send out pain signals, resulting in pain in the lower back itself – or along the nerve pathways in the legs, knees, ankles, and even feet. Your physician can diagnose the cause of your back or knee pain and help determine what treatments will be right for you. Some of the possibilities include:

1. Physical Therapy

Working with a physical therapist includes identifying the cause of your pain and designing treatments to address the underlying cause and provide effective relief. In general, when you arrive for your physical therapy appointment, you can expect consultation and an exam to evaluate your gait, any abnormalities in your bones or joints, your range of motion, your strength, your balance, and any signs of injury. Then, your physical therapist will prescribe a treatment plan tailored to your needs that may include exercises, stretches, and other therapies such as massage or the application of heat or ice.

2. Chiropractic Manipulation

Another possible path to relief is chiropractic care. A chiropractor may help treat the underlying issues that are causing your discomfort using chiropractic techniques designed to alleviate pain and help improve your overall health. Typically, a chiropractor will have a variety of possible angles of approach to treating pain, from applying ice to reduce inflammation to using massage techniques to increase range of motion to using chiropractic manipulation to help mobilize areas of restricted movement.

3. Spinal Cord Stimulators

If you are experiencing back pain or knee pain that originates in the back, then a spinal cord stimulator might be a good option for you. Spinal cord stimulation is often used when non-surgical pain relief measures have been unsuccessful. This treatment can be used to address many different types of chronic pain, including back pain, post-surgical pain, and more. Spinal cord stimulation is often a good choice for patients who have not had good results from medications and other minimally invasive therapies and those without psychiatric disorders, which can reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.

4. Medication

There is a range of medications that can help treat back and knee pain. These drugs are often used with other treatments such as physical therapy or chiropractic treatments to achieve optimal relief. Medication options include:

NSAIDs are frequently the first line of defense when it comes to back and knee pain. These drugs help decrease inflammation and, therefore, pain.

Opioids may be an option in patients with severe pain that does not respond to other treatments. These drugs are generally safe when used for short periods.

Muscle relaxants. Muscle relaxants are available by prescription and reduce pain by affecting the central nervous system. This type of medication usually causes drowsiness.

Even if you aren’t depressed, antidepressants may help relieve your pain. Some research has shown that certain antidepressants are effective in reducing chronic pain.

Redefine Healthcare is a Tier-One, In-Network provider comprised of top-rated, board-certified physicians specializing in minimally invasive procedures that afford patients a pain-free lifestyle without surgery. Four minimally invasive ways Redefine Healthcare can treat back pain are:

Epidural Steroid Injections: There’s a reason epidural steroid injections are the most commonly administered injection; they effectively relieve back pain. As the name indicates, a steroid is injected into the epidural region of the spine. Epidural injections can be used to treat sciatica, spinal stenosis, spondylolysis, or disc herniation.

Radiofrequency Ablation: This safe and effective treatment for back pain utilizes a radio wave to send an electric current that heats nerve tissue, effectively numbing the pain receptors of the nerve.

Facet Joint Injections: The facet joints are small joints along the spine that help provide stability and mobility and can become painful from arthritis or injury. The steroid medication injected into the facet joints can relieve pain, allowing the patient to endure a physical therapy or rehabilitation routine better.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy: Used by professional athletes, PRP Therapy involves placing a blood sample from the patient into a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets in the blood by separating them from the plasma. The PRP injected into the pain area is meant to encourage more efficient healing, attributed to the healing and clotting properties of the concentrated platelets.

Physical medicine and rehabilitation, or PM&R, is not a well-known specialty, but it packs a powerful punch for those who benefit from it.

What Is PM&R?

In the simplest terms, PM&R is a specialty in medicine that helps to restore functionality to people who are living with a disability due to a disease, a disorder, or an injury. A PM&R physician oversees multidisciplinary care avenues that address the patient’s physical, emotional, medical, vocational, and social needs.

A PM&R physician, or a physiatrist, addresses more than the pain associated with a disability. While doctors may prescribe medication to mask the pain, a PM&R doctor treats the whole person by collaborating with a variety of health care professionals to design a holistic program that includes physical therapy, stretching exercises, massage, and medicine for short-term relief.

Who Should See a PM&R Physician?

Anyone who wants treatment for conditions that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons may benefit from PM&R support. Here are examples of when you should consider seeing a PM&R physician:

An accident left you with limited function or pain.

You are recovering from the effects of a stroke or other types of nerve damage.

You experience chronic pain from a stress injury or arthritis, or you have back problems that continue for more than three months.

An illness has diminished your ability to move easily.

How a Physiatrist Treats Your Condition

A physiatrist will tailor a plan to address the specific needs of your ailment. For example, if you have chronic neck pain, there are short-term and long-term options and medical procedures to help. For short-term pain relief, engage in massage and stretching—a doctor may also prescribe medication to lessen your discomfort. Your doctor could prescribe strengthening exercises to prevent future pain. If surgery is necessary, he or she will work with your surgeon before and after the procedure.

A PM&R physician determines realistic goals, finds relief for your pain, and works with you to achieve success in rehabilitation and exercise programs. Your physiatrist is there when you have setbacks and will reassess a new strategy, make changes, and create new goals so that you never feel alone in your quest for improvement.

Benefits of Rehabilitation

Disabilities are typically not curable but improving the lifestyle of someone with a disability is vital in maintaining their sense of well-being. Rehabilitation doesn’t reverse or undo the damage, but it does restore a person’s bodily functions in a positive direction. A patient will find that they improve in the following ways:

Treatments help to prevent complications from the disability.

Function improves, allowing for greater movement in the areas reduced by the disability.

Tools allow the patient to adapt to their environment.

Coaching the patient as well as the family helps them to adapt to changes in lifestyle and mentality.

If you can perform an activity after rehabilitation that was impossible before, the psychological impact is enormous. The mental effects of returning to work after a successful rehabilitation process can also be immensely encouraging.

By visiting us and seeing a PM&R physician, you will be on your way to functioning at your highest level. Contact us today to partner with a physiatrist for a treatment plan tailored specifically for you.

For most people, pain is inevitable at some point in their lives, but taking preventive measures increases the likelihood of recovering more quickly or avoiding injury altogether.

Prevention

Your spinal health is vital to your productive and active lifestyle. Taking preventative steps increases your ability to build strength and flexibility.

Preventive chiropractic care increases your range of motion by boosting flexibility. When your muscles and joints are tight, you are at an increased risk of straining them, even during your light daily routines. Adjustments improve your joints’ ability to move so that your muscles can do their work.

Your spine supports your body. A chiropractor’s adjustment will improve your posture, which has a direct effect on the neck, back, and leg areas. The more you stand or sit up straight, the less likely it is that you’ll experience minor aches and pains.

Have you noticed minor pain? You may think that it isn’t worth addressing unless it worsens, but focusing on the issue earlier means that you can stop it before it becomes problematic.

You can stay one step ahead of aches and pains if you visit our offices as a preventive gift to yourself. If you do face a sports injury or find yourself rear-ended in an automobile accident, you will have a stronger and more flexible body to begin the healing process with as you pursue care.

Car Accidents

No amount of prevention can protect you from another person rear-ending you in an auto accident. The good news is that chiropractors are an excellent resource to address these kinds of injuries.

When someone hits your car from behind, forces measuring thousands of pounds impact your supporting tissues around the spine and neck. These tissues, ligaments, and vertebral discs stretch and tear, disrupting your joints. Spinal shifting and misalignment add up to the potential for a lot of aches and pains.

Pain from a car accident may not appear for days or even weeks after the accident. Pain medication does a satisfying job at masking the pain. However, a chiropractor will get to the underlying injury, whether it is a spinal issue or whiplash.

The Long-Term Solution to Managing Pain

Chiropractic care will address lost mobility after an injury. Adjustment relieves the pressure on the nerves and muscles as it realigns the spine. There are times when the pain goes away immediately upon alignment. Corrective exercises increase the body’s full range of motion, relieving even more pain.

Your long-term solution to supporting your body’s natural healing process begins with that first drive to your chiropractor’s office. Contact us today to schedule an appointment to relieve pain and build a healthier spinal structure to prepare for the unexpected.
