Dr. John Coccaro is a board-certified anesthesiologist and interventional pain management physician dedicated to helping patients manage and overcome acute and chronic pain.
Originally from Brooklyn, Dr. Coccaro was inspired to pursue medicine by the hard-working people in his community whose physical struggles ignited his passion to care for others. He earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine and completed surgical training at Monmouth Medical Center, where he developed strong technical skills and gained valuable experience in trauma and neurosurgical care.
Dr. Coccaro went on to train in anesthesia and pain medicine at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ, where he performed thousands of interventional procedures using fluoroscopy and ultrasound. He developed a special interest in pediatric regional anesthesia and adult pain management, honing his precision-based approach.
His treatment philosophy is simple and focused: identify and treat one pain generator at a time using minimally invasive techniques. He avoids unnecessary repeat procedures and emphasizes careful diagnosis through thorough patient history, physical examination, and imaging review. He favors non-narcotic treatment plans whenever possible, collaborating closely with primary care physicians to ensure safe, coordinated care.
Dr. Coccaro’s ultimate goal is to relieve pain while minimizing the need for surgery, long-term medications, and hospital stays—helping patients return to their daily lives with comfort and confidence.
